Comunidad Inti Wara Yassi and our affiliates, Friends of Inti Wara Yassi UK and Friends of Inti Wara Yassi Australia Trust, (collectively, “CIWY”) respect your privacy, and we know that many people care about how their information is used and shared. This Privacy Policy applies to CIWY’s website www.intiwarayassi.org, as well as to the domain www.ciwy.org, which redirects web traffic to www.intiwarayassi.org (collectively, the “Website”). By visiting the Website, you are accepting the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

Who We Are

Comunidad Inti Wara Yassi is a legally established Bolivian non-governmental organisation that receives, rehabilitates and cares for wildlife rescued from illegal trafficking, and it carries out its activities in its three wildlife sanctuaries: Parque Machía, Parque Ambue Ari, and Parque Jacj Cuisi. Furthermore, CIWY carries out educational projects and scientific research that relate to the conservation of wildlife and the environment.

Friends of Inti Wara Yassi (FIWY) is the international organisation that supports the work of Comunidad Inti Wara Yassi. It consists of two legal entities: Friends of Inti Wara Yassi UK (a charity registered in England and Wales under the number 1124355) and Friends of Inti Wara Yassi Australia Trust (a charity registered in Australia under the ABN 93433783701).

Together they provide administrative support, manage international fundraising, raise international awareness of Comunidad Inti Wara Yassi’s work, and establish partnerships with other organizations. Electronic donations made through this website are administered by FIWY on behalf of Comunidad Inti Wara Yassi.

CIWY and our service providers collect Personal Information that you provide while using the Website. For instance, CIWY gathers information when you fill out forms on the Website, including, for example, e-newsletter sign-up forms, donation forms, contact forms, and purchase forms.

How We Use Collected Information

CIWY may use your Personal Information:

  • To respond to your inquiries via our contact form. We do not use the information submitted for marketing purposes and do not share it with third parties.
  • To aggregate Personal Information. Aggregated information does not personally identify you or any other user of the Website (for example, we may aggregate Personal Information to calculate the percentage of our users who have a particular email client).
  • To send you our newsletter and email campaigns if you submit a subscription form on the Website. By submitting the subscription form, you will be opting in for us to save your name, email address and other relevant information. You may opt out or unsubscribe at any time in the future by clicking the ‘Unsubscribe’ link at the bottom of any email. Alternatively, you may email us at friends@intiwarayassi.org, and we will remove your details from our mailing list upon request.

Our website uses plugins from YouTube, which is operated by Google, to share video content. The operator of the pages is YouTube LLC, 901 Cherry Ave., San Bruno, CA 94066, USA. If you visit one of our pages featuring a YouTube plugin, a connection to the YouTube servers is established. Here the YouTube server is informed about which of our pages you have visited. If you’re logged in to your YouTube account, YouTube allows you to associate your browsing behaviour directly with your personal profile. You can prevent this by logging out of your YouTube account. For uniform representation of fonts, this page uses web fonts provided by Google. When you use our online donation pages, including our Sponsor an Animal webpage, your donation is processed by a third party payment processor (PayPal, CAF Donate or GiveNow), who specialises in the secure online capture and processing of credit card and debit card transactions and direct debit management.

If you purchase merchandise from our online shop, your details are processed by Ecwid, a third-party e-commerce platform, and payments are managed by PayPal.

We may also use and disclose your Personal Information as we believe to be necessary or appropriate: (a) under applicable law, including laws outside your country of residence; (b) to comply with legal process; (c) to respond to requests from public and government authorities, including public and government authorities outside your country of residence; (d) to enforce our terms and conditions; (e) to protect our operations or those of any of our affiliates; (f) to protect our rights, privacy, safety or property, and/or that of our affiliates, you, or others; and (g) to allow us to pursue available remedies or limit the damages that we may sustain.

Accessing and Updating Your Information

The accuracy of your information is important to us. If you change your contact information, please email us at friends@intiwarayassi.org. This is particularly important if you have previously completed a Gift Aid declaration with us.
You have the right to ask for a copy of the information CIWY holds about you. We may charge £10 for information requests to cover our costs in providing you with details of the information we hold about you.

Information Retention

We review our retention periods for Personal Information on a regular basis. We are legally required to hold some types of information to fulfil our statutory obligations, such as the collection of Gift Aid. We will hold your Personal Information on our systems for as long as is necessary for the relevant activity, or as long as is set out in any relevant contract you hold with us.

Security of Your Information

When you give us Personal Information, we take steps to ensure that it’s treated securely.

Non-sensitive details are transmitted normally over the Internet, and this can never be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, while we strive to protect your Personal Information, we cannot guarantee the security of any information you transmit to us, and you do so at your own risk. Once we receive your information, we make our best effort to ensure its security on our systems.

CIWY does not knowingly collect Personal Information from anyone under the age of 16. The Website is not directed at children under the age of 16. In the event that CIWY learns that it has collected Personal Information from a child under age 16 without parental consent, we will delete that information as quickly as possible. If you believe that we might have collected any Personal Information from a child under 16, please contact us.

The Website is controlled and operated by CIWY from Bolivia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Your Personal Information may be stored and processed in any country where we have facilities or in which we engage service providers, and, by using the Website, you consent to the transfer of information to countries outside of your country of residence, which may have different data protection rules than those of your country.

If you use our services while you are outside the EU, your information may be transferred outside the EU in order to provide you with those services.

CIWY may from time to time and at our discretion amend this Privacy Policy. The “Effective Date” at the top of this page indicates when this Privacy Policy was last revised. Any changes to this Privacy Policy will become effective when we post the revised Privacy Policy on the Website. Your continued use of the Website following these changes means that you accept the revised Privacy Policy.
