Ignacio (iggy) is an adolescent male spider monkey. Ignacio was rescued by CIWY from a circus where he was kept in a small cage with two other spider monkeys. All three monkeys were malnourished and suffering deep psychological trauma on arrival at CIWY’s Parque Machia. As Iggy was a lot younger than the other two, his rehabilitation process was less complex. After his initial observation period in quarantine was completed Iggy was introduced to the group of spider monkeys. He found the separation from his friends extremely difficult, and often left the spider park to visit his friends. On one of these occasions, the other two got very angry and attacked him, biting off part of his tail. Sadly as a result of this Ignacio has also had to be put on a cord for his own protection.

Iggy copes incredibly well with his half tail and is an extremely energetic young male who is usually found playing with any monkey nearby who is willing! He is very easy to get on with, is a very responsible ‘adoptive brother’ to many of the younger monkeys.
